Seattle Alumnae History
The Greater Seattle Alumnae Chapter was chartered in 1909 by Alpha Xi Delta.
Since 1912, the name Pickle Mix has been attached to the gathering of alums when
they visited the chapter bearing gifts of pickles, jams, jellies, and home
canned food, and it became a regular event. Today, it is an annual auction
to support chapter scholarships.
Since the 1970s, each year an award is given to an Outstanding Alumna at Founder's Day.
The associations has also representated at many National Conventions Attendees .Nu Collegiate Chapter Chartering
May 13, 1907 Fifteen women, wearing blue and gold ribbons, stood on the steps of Denny Hall, University of Washington, and announced their chartering as Alpha Xi Delta. Chartering Members include (some pictured left) May Chambers, Lillian Esary, Hazel Estes, Pearl Gilkey, Margaret Harris, Ethel Latham, Olive Mueller, Lela Parker, Myrtle Parr, Mary Smith, Frances Sanborn, Marian Schneider, Elsie Waddingham, Magdalene Williman, and Ava Young. Nu Chapter was installed as the 13th chapter of Alpha Xi Delta.
Honored Local Alumnae
Linda Belles Dinus was intiatied at Nu Chatper on January 15, 1960 and was National Alpha Xi Delta President from 1993 to 1997. An award is given locally to the outstanding Alpha Xi Delta of the year who exemplifies leadership, scholarship, campus service and enthusiasm. All the qualities of Nu Chapter Alumna and past National President who passed away in 2015 at the age of 74.Betty Brockman Jones was a key leader during Nu Chapter's re-colonization year, noted for her encouraging and inspirational outlook despite her own unsuccesful batter with breast cancer. Each year an award is given in her honor.
